"We had to wait for hurricane Isabel to complete her rampage in September of 2003 before venturing to the outer banks of North Carolina. And when we did arrive the devastation was all too obvious. I can not imagine designing and building a lighthouse to withstand these forces. But in 1870 they did just that some 200 feet from the waters edge. Over 100 years later that proved to be too close so Americas Lighthouse, 196 foot tall Cape Hatteras, was moved 1/4 mile inland in 1999 Enjoy, Elaine"
