How do we explain a black lightship??? It seems the 1920 lightship was traditional red until 1936 when she was painted black and assigned to serve the black buoy side of the entrance to Lake Huron cut. Even after the lighthouse service merged with the US Coast Guard she remained the only black lightship. She was withdrawn from service in 1970 as the oldest lightship in the Coast Guard. She is now a museum at Pine Grove Park, Port Huron, Michigan. Enjoy, Elaine
