set took a long time to complete from my original tour in 2003. I just couldn’t
do the bridges justice. Worn, weathered wood was my hang-up. Then there was the
problem of Windsor Mills. My photo was of the bridge during restoration torn
down to the roadbed. Fran solved the Windsor Mills problem. She drove out to
the bridge in 20 degree weather and took 25 photos—including all the Christmas
decorations. It turns out each bridge gets white lights, garland, wreath and
red bows for the season. Hours of trials and stitchouts solved the wood
problem. Covered bridges served a valuable purpose. Snow pack would collapse a
bridge without the protection of a steeply pitched roof. It was the bridge that
enabled travel across rivers year around. You can enjoy Ashtabula County Covered
Bridge Festival the second full weekend in October. The number on the bridge
name is the tour number assigned to each bridge." Enjoy, Elaine
