From Trip Photos And "Wish List" Participant, Barb
"Perhaps the most recognized of America's lighthouses is the Statue of Liberty, even though her service as a lighthouse lasted only from 1886 to 1902. We had planned on parking in a park and ride lot in New Jersey and catching the commuter train into New York City but the heat dissuaded us from leaving the two dogs all day in the RV. So on September 10,2001 we headed for Pennsylvania where we heard the tragic news of 911. The towers had fallen, so many lives were lost but the words best associated with "The Lady" were never more true-"I lift my lamp beside the golden door", the American spirit of love and caring prevailed. It took two years before we would actually get back to see "the Lady". Enjoy, Elaine"
