I am the owner of Garden of Daisies Embroidery. I
started my business 10 years ago when my youngest daughter began
taking Irish step dancing lessons. The school was relatively new
and in need of a dressmaker – I was the ‘mom-in-the-lobby’ who
raised her hand when the teacher asked if anyone knew how to sew.
At first I made the dresses, hiring out the embroidery to a
commercial firm. But finding I couldn’t control their quality, I
invested in my first embroidery machine. I now own two industrial
single-head, 15-thread machines, a Baby Lock Ellegante, a couple
of Pfaffs, my Mum’s Singer, an Elna, and lots of digitizing
software. My business has evolved into supplying embroidery to the
Irish dancing costuming industry, as well as designing, digitizing
and selling my own embroidery designs here at OPW. I love writing
about embroidery and have numerous articles published in Designs
in Machine Embroidery magazine. I won Stitches magazine’s 2006
Stitch-Off Competition in the Fashion category, as well as the
People’s Choice Award. My life-long love of sewing has expanded
into combining cutting-edge technology with traditional needle
arts to see what I can come up with.
