Aljay Designs
is the brainchild of Louise from a small city in South Africa. She
has been married to Kevin for 34 years and they have 2 sons, Andrew,
29 and Simon, 20.
She first
became interested in embroidery about 9 years ago and has been
digitizing for 7 years. Although her business is part time she says
“I am afraid the embroidery thing has swallowed up most of my spare
time! I enjoy reading on the rare occasion when I find time, and I
am very involved in my local church.”
The birds in
the profile photo are Charlie – green one – and Gandolf – the white
one. They belong to her youngest son Simon who is off to university
making Louise their surrogate mother.
For the
future of her business she would like it to grow to the point where
she can resign from working for a salary and only do embroidery.
She says “I love doing designs in a light, variable stitch density,
and flowers are my favorite subject!” She would like to do free
standing lace in the future but hasn't begun to tackle it yet.
“My Bernina
agent has been a pillar of support and information” Louise uses
Bernina Artista software. She also credits her husband for being
very supportive and patient with this time consuming passion! Her
eldest son Andrew recently rebuilt a stunning website for her –
aljaydesign.com. She is exclusive to Oregon Patchworks and when a
customer clicks to buy anything they go directly to the OPW shopping
cart.
